1. Pricing type 'None' for job types - removes pricing tabs & customer quotes
 
2. Availability of numeric keypads controlled via new optional key, "NumericPads", in registry files...
 "NumericPads"=dword:00000001 (numeric pads On - this is the default setting if this key is not defined in the registry)
 "NumericPads"=dword:00000000 (numeric pads Off)
  (Note: date and time pads are always available as before)
 
3. Automatic reconnection and continuation whenever connection to the server drops out due to network/internet hiccups
    (before, users had to close RelMS using Ctrl-Alt-Del - now users simply check to ensure their LAN or VPN connection to the RelMS server is up, then press OK to the notification message and keep working)
 
4. Re-labelling of some outstanding job types etc.
 
5. Move Survey Date is not displayed for Move 1 as the Quote Survey Date represents the same date. The Move Survey Date is available for Moves 2 onwards (so long as the move mode is not 1->Many where only 1 inspection is conducted)

Overview of Problem Domain
Accurate pricing of any removal work requires an understanding of a range of variables. In order to provide a quotation, the consultant will commonly note the items to be removed, their destination and several other critical factors. The consultant then returns to the office and calculates a removal cost based on their notes. Pricing is determined primarily by the volume, weight and destination of the items to be moved.

This information is used to create a quotation that is subsequently mailed to the client. Furthermore, if the quotation is subsequently accepted by the client, the job is commonly undertaken in the absence of the person who recorded the inventory. The moving company may also not be provided with details from the consultant as to the scope of the job.

The problems with this arrangement are many, namely:

  • There is a significant amount of time needed to generate a quotation.
  • The delay in providing a quotation to the client when there attention is focused on the move denies the person generating the quotation the opportunity to close the sale.
  • The inclusion of the volume of items to be transported allows competitors to rapidly produce a competing quotation based on your measurement efforts that the prospective client has shared with them.
  • The lack of communication between the consultant who provided the client with the quotation and the actual moving company can result in clients taking advantage of the naïveté by requesting additional items to be transported that were not within the scope of the quotation.
  • The potential for the consultant who provided the client with the quotation, through absent-mindedness or lack of knowledge, may forget to detail the type and quantity of equipment and packing materials needed by the moving company to perform the job.
